What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?
The audience is met with a bold box-like print with the text of " Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer pictures" and "Warner Bros Pictures". These are the producers of the film and are the first titles seen. Soon after, the text fades to reveal another text that says " In Association with New Line Cinema". Finally, the text "Creed" appears in all caps bigger and bolder than the rest of the previous text.
What Images are prioritized in its opening scenes?
The audience is met with an actor who plays the younger version of Adonis Creed, the protagonist in the film. He has a bruise on his left cheek, a black eye, and a busted lip. Moreover, he says the words "what was his name" more than likely referring to his father, a well known boxer. Finally, we see him in some sort of confinement, more than likely a jailhouse as he is known to be a trouble maker later in the film.
Soon after, we see the adult version of the child. He is tall, muscular and his wrapping his hands with boxing tape, which may reference that the child was in a fight.
What connotations do these images carry?
These images conjure curiosity. Who is the young boy talking about? Where is he at? Finally, why is his face bruised and beaten?
How does the film establish a feeling of genre in the outset?
The title sequence presents a variety of pictures and characters that are important throughout the film, a women, a man, and another boxer. In most of these pictures, Adonis Creed is present, usually having something to do with, not only does this creates the idea of a strong relation between these characters, but implies that boxing has something critical to do with the main character and gives the rise of a conflict, creating drama.
What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The seemingly dull color theme (white, black, light blue, grey) isn't vibrant as other films which might turn the interests of younger viewers. The blood, and gore may also scare younger viewers as well.
What technology has been used effectively?
Although there are two live shot scenes (eye-line match and steadicam respectfully) in the title sequence, the transitions help bring the title sequence to life. These include fade-to-black, and zooming out transitions.
