Genre Research: The Karate Kid

The movie The Karate kid was released June 11, 2010. Was directed by Harald Zwart, and made 359.1 million USD in the box office. This movie is about a 12-year-old named Dre Parker who had to move due to his mother’s job. When he moved he found himself in new surroundings. As he tries to adjust to this new environment he begins to get bullied. As he tries to escape his bully he rams into this stranger that comes to help him defends off the bullies. Dre then asks to be taken under this stranger’s wing so he can avoid getting bullies. As the movie progresses you see the relationships in this movie slowly begin to tie together. As he trains under his new instructor he learns karate and learns to defend himself and others. The sensei begins to see Dre as his son. (10)

  • An element we want to convey in our final project that is conveyed in this movie is the story. In this movie, the stories perfectly line together throughout the whole showing. It was easy to comprehend and made it more enjoyable to watch. It is a movie worth remembering, so good that many have rewatched and still remember it to this day. (4)
  • One element that I like in this movie is the suspense. In this movie, it kept you on the edge of your seat. Have you guessing on what's going to happen next never knowing which way the story will turn.
  • The element that I didn't enjoy in this movie was the filler. Parts of the movie that could've been left out, but was left in to fill in time holes. Fillers in anything just seem like time wasted instead of keeping the same track through the end.
